Fran Gonzalez — Contemporary Gilding
Fran Gonzalez is a contemporary Spanish artist whose work revolves around gilding, which he reinterprets in a resolutely modern approach under the name Contemporary Gilding.
Active since the early 1980s, he has developed a unique practice combining sculpture, ceramics, and leaf gilding techniques (gold, metal, composite materials). His work relies on the use of traditional processes—notably water gilding—which he reinterprets and enriches through experimentation, creating textured, oxidized, and deeply luminous surfaces.
Inspired by archaeology, ancient cultures, and 20th-century contemporary art, Fran Gonzalez explores the relationship between material and symbolism. His works play with light, revealing changing reflections and an almost immaterial presence, where gilding transcends its decorative function to become a true artistic language.
Present in numerous private collections across Europe and internationally, his creations captivate with their artisanal and conceptual dimension, blurring the lines between decorative object and work of art.
