Éric Vautherin – The Drunken Boat, illustration no. 16 – 1989

Work on paper by Éric Vautherin (1927–2017), created in 1989 for a series of illustrations dedicated to The Drunken Boat (Le Bateau ivre).

This illustration, no. 16, combines printing with acrylic paint interventions. The dense and expressive figurative composition brings forth interlocking forms in a palette of pinks, reds, ochres, blacks, grays, and pale greens. The painted highlights add relief and movement to the printed surface.

The work is signed “E. Vautherin” at the bottom right. It is presented under glass, in a light-colored mat and a black frame.
