Glazed stoneware vase by Maurice Pitot – Belgium – 1960s
Glazed stoneware vase made by the Belgian ceramist Maurice Pitot, active in Châtelineau and associated with the Bouffioulx stoneware tradition, around the 1950s-1960s.
This beautiful piece features a generous ovoid shape, highlighted by two looping side handles and a wide flared neck. The decoration is distinguished by superb flowing enamels in shades of brown, copper, olive green, and black, creating particularly expressive textural and deep effects.
The variations in colors and irregular drips testify to the artisanal character of the piece and make each side different. The contrast between the warm tones of the body and the darker enamels of the neck and handles gives it a very decorative presence.
The base bears the incised signature "Pitot P", corresponding to the ceramist Maurice Pitot.
Very good overall vintage condition. Some small irregularities in firing and glaze are visible, characteristic of a handmade piece from this period. Please consult the detailed photographs to appreciate its condition precisely.
