Large Napoleon III mantel set in red marble and patinated spelter signed Guillemin – clock & candelabra 19th C.

Important Napoleon III fireplace set comprising a central clock and two matching candelabras in patinated spelter and veined cherry red marble, late 19th century.

Titled "Sur le Mont", the sculpture depicts a young shepherdess or peasant woman walking in a romantic style, holding a crook (shepherd's staff) in one hand and picking or admiring a flower (an edelweiss, evoking the mountain) in the other. The base bears the inscriptions:

“SUR LE MONT PAR GUILLEMIN SCULP”
and signature “L. GUILLEMIN”

The movement is signed AD Mougin – Deux Médailles, a renowned French manufacturer from the late 19th century.

Very beautiful decorative presence with its significant dimensions, its rocaille gilded bronzes and its richly veined red marble.

The set comes with its key and pendulum.

• the movement starts but needs an overhaul as it stops after a few seconds. (Not necessary for decorative use)
• the minute hand is missing
• some signs of age and minor wear consistent with its age

This set has been completely disassembled and thoroughly cleaned before reassembly.
The patinated spelter sculptures and candelabras have been carefully degreased and then protected with a conservation wax to revive and preserve their antique patina. The marble has also been degreased and protected with a suitable balm.

Ideal for bourgeois interiors, stately homes, château decorations, antique clock collections or an Art Nouveau / Belle Époque ambiance.
