Signed Méténier stoneware vase, double-handled, pink and black flamed enamel – 22 cm
Elegant stoneware vase signed Méténier, made in the first half of the 20th century, probably between the 1920s and 1940s, in the family workshop in Gannat, Allier.
The piece is distinguished by a harmonious silhouette with double handles, inspired by ancient forms reinterpreted in a modernist spirit. The generous body is animated by a subtly ribbed vertical decoration, highlighted by remarkable enamel work.
The contrast between the powdery pink base and the deep black drips creates a flamed effect typical of French art stoneware from this period. Each piece being unique, the nuances and variations in material fully contribute to its character.
Hand-signed under the base.
This vase perfectly illustrates the expertise of the Méténier workshops, renowned for their research into enamels and their forms, which are both simple and expressive.
Ideal as a centerpiece, alone or accompanied, in a contemporary, wabi-sabi, or 1930s-inspired interior.
